Freedom Riders
Thanks to a $30,000.00 grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent launched Freedom Riders: Adapted Bicycle Loan Program in May 2008.
The loan program is open to Children’s Treatment Centre clients who require the assist
ance of a specialized adapted bicycle.
There is a program fee of $50 and a deposit fee of $100 to loan an adapted bicycle. The deposit fee is returned to the family upon the return of the bicycle in good condition. Any repairs required will be charged against the deposit. The program fee dollars are used toward maintenance and upkeep.
A loan season is determined by the Children’s Treatment Centre. The 2009 Summer Loan Season will run from May 25-October 19, 2009. An appointment will be scheduled for pick up and fitting if a bike is assigned.
Bicycles are loaned out on a first come, first serve basis which is dependent upon availability. The bicycles are sized to the child’s inseam; this information is required to assign the appropriate bicycle.
If you are interested in loaning an adapted bicycle or have any questions about the Freedom Riders Program please contact 519-354-0520 EXT 244.
