Social Work

The social work team includes Social Workers who work with children, adolescents and their families, individually and in groups, to provide assessments, support and counseling. Social workers provide information on how to access community resources such as financial aid, child care, specialized counseling, or psychological services. Educational groups for children, parents, and brothers and sisters are also provided.

Triple P

As part of services, social work offers the Triple P Positive Parenting Program. Triple P promotes good communication and strong relationships between parents and children. This helps parents support their child’s behaviour in a positive and caring way. Triple P allows parents to recognize causes of common child behaviour problems and promotes appropriate behaviour in their children.

Infant Hearing/Blind Low Vision

Our social workers are family support workers for a child who has been diagnosed with hearing loss, blindness or low vision. The social workers are specially trained and will help the family understand and deal with the effects of the diagnosis. They make informed decisions about support services. The parents are taught how to support their child’s development through:

  • intentional movement (orientation and mobility)
  • motor skills (rolling, reaching, crawling, walking, and use of hands to explore)
  • daily living skills (eating, dressing, toileting)
  • concept development (object identification, function, characteristics)
  • social and emotional development
  • language and communication
  • how to use all senses to help development
