    Q.01 What is the Children’s Treatment Centre?

    The Children’s Treatment Centre focuses on the needs of children and youth from birth through to 18 years of age with physical, developmental or communication needs. Audiology services are also available for individuals of all ages.

    Q.02 Why and when was it established?

    It was established by a group of parents with children with cerebral palsy and became the Parents Association for Cerebral Palsied Children in 1948.

    Q.03 How will it improve care for my child?

    Your child will receive an assessment based on his/her needs. Various services and programs are available to you, your child and your family to ensure that your child is receiving the best care to open a world of opportunity for your child.

    Q.04 What kind of services are offered?

    Hearing Testing, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Respite Care, Recreation, Social Work and Speech Language Pathology among other services and programs are offered. For specific information on services and programs please visit the Services and Programs link on this website.

    Q.05 What type of children do you treat?

    We treat children and youth from birth through to 18 years of age with physical, developmental or communication needs. Audiology services are also available for individuals of all ages.

    Q.06 What are the ages of clients you treat?

    We treat children and youth from birth through to 18 years of age. We also have audiology services for children and adults.

    Q.07 What is the cost? Is there funding assistance?

    There is no cost to you! We are funded through the the province of Ontario Ministry of Child and Youth Services. If you require financial assistance to pay for equipment or speciality items, or have difficulty finding transportation to therapy, our Family Support Staff are available to help!

    Q.08 What if my child is already receiving treatments elsewhere?

    We encourage our clients to inform us if they are receiving services elsewhere. We will work together to find the best service to meet the child’s needs.

    Q.09 Do I need a referral?

    You may self refer by calling 519-354-0520 and dial “0”. Our reception will gladly connect you to the right person to assist you in the referral process to access our services.

    Q.10 Does this centre have equal care to those in larger centres?

    Each centre is unique in each community. We all offer the same core services, such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy. Our wait times might be different, but we all follow the same guidelines.

    Q.11 How are services determined for each child?

    CTC uses a family centred service model which promotes partnerships between parents and service providers. Therapists use assessments to determine your child's strengths and needs and work with you to make a follow up plan..

    Q.12 How is the centre funded?

    The centre is a non-profit organization funded primarily through the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Enhanced services are funded through donations and sponsorships.

    Q.13 Do you employ accredited professionals?

    Our therapists are self-regulated health professionals which belong to governing bodies called colleges that set the standards for skills, knowledge and conduct of their members.     Q.14 Can I come in for a tour of the facility?

    You can contact the Children’s Treatment Centre for a tour and consultation at 519-354-0520.

    Q.15 What is the waiting period for service?

    Each team of therapists has a different wait schedule. You will be notified of waiting times which change over time due to staff vacancies or number of referrals.

    Q.16 Can my child continue treatment when he/she enters Grade 1?

    Once your child is eligible for grade one, our staff make referrals to other agencies that provide School Health Support Services and School Board Speech and Language Services. Children with long term needs may remain on caseload for specialty school aged programs.

    Q.17 Can I use the therapy pool?

    We offer to all clients on our caseload, the chance to use our therapy pool during Open Family Pool night. This is a great opportunity for our clients and their families to enjoy our warm therapy pool, just for fun!!

    The Open Family Pool night is open on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., as well as Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. We have a qualified, licensed liftguard on duty for your families' safety. For a minimal fee, our Centre also offers individual swimming lessons for clients on our Centre caseload. They are offered on a first come first serve basis. Lessons are every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. So call today to reserve your spot!

    Q.18 Grandma doesn’t understand my child but I can understand him, should I come in for an assessment?

    Yes!! Let our qualified therapists assess your child to see if therapy is required or not. We have screenings thoughout Chatham-Kent, so don’t hesitate to call us to schedule your child in today.

    Q.19 Can I change our therapist?

    We encourage you to talk to your therapist directly about your concerns, or just let the front office staff know that you want to speak to someone in management to address your concerns. We want your experience at the Children’s Treatment Centre to be a great one and so staff changes can be made if needed.

    Q.20 If my child misses an appointment, will we be charged?

    No. We do not charge for missed appointments but we strongly advise families to call if they are unable to make their appointment. If 2 appointments are missed without contacting the Centre, your child’s file will be closed and another referral will need to be initiated.
