Adult Audiology

Audiologists work with clients to help them hear well. This is the only service offered at the centre to both children and adults. In-depth hearing tests are performed. The hearing aid dispensary is unique to the centre and offers convenience to our clients. Hearing related counseling to clients and their families and consultation to involved medical facilities are also provided.

Audiology services include:

  • Hearing Testing - determines if there is hearing loss, the extent and what kind.
  • Middle ear testing- to rule out hearing loss related to reasons like ear infections or excessive wax buildup.
  • Hearing aid prescription/evaluation- to discuss the use of hearing aids, provide information and prescribe a hearing aid.
  • Hearing aid dispensing/selling hearing aids
  • Hearing aid re-check
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) - testing or auditory evoked potential assessment to test the reliability of the hearing nerve.
  • Otoacoustic Emissions testing- to test reliability and function of the cochlea (organ of hearing)

The Ministry of Children and Youth will not allow us to direct any Ministry funding to adult services and our hearing tests are not covered through OHIP.  With well equipped testing booths and experienced audiologists, the Centre continues to offer services for adults.  As a nonprofit service agency, the Centre charges an assessment and recheck fee to cover costs of adult services.  The charge for the initial assessment is $72.00 and the charge for a re-assessment is $45.00.
